From attacks by Scottish kings and resident knights like Harry Hotspur, to restorations in the Georgian and Victorian eras, to appearances on the big screen, there is always more to discover about Alnwick Castle.

Guided Tours

Our friendly and knowledgeable guiding team deliver daily tours, which are included as part of your entry fee.

Join a Historical Grounds tour to learn about the eventful history of Alnwick Castle, from its journey from a medieval fortress to a ducal residence.

Our State Room tours will take you around the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland's home, where you will hear about the incredible art collection and beautiful interiors. Not available during July & August.

At weekends and school holidays our Family Friendly History tour will give our young visitors a chance to hear more about Alnwick Castle's history, in a shorter 30-minute tour.

'Alnwick on Location' Tours

Join a tour for a cinematic journey around the castle grounds, which have played a part in historical features, Shakespeare adaptations and, most famously, two Harry Potter films.

Visitors will discover the locations where scenes were shot and hear behind-the-scenes anecdotes with an entertaining and knowledgeable guide.
 
This tour is free with your entry ticket and lasts approximately 45-minutes. This tour takes place outdoors and may be weather-permitting.

Talks

Join members of our knowledgeable and friendly guiding team on a Spotlight Talk to find out more about highlights of the castle's history and collections. Subjects change daily, please check at the State Room entrance to discover the talks of the day.

Medieval Life Explored

Join our Artisans to learn more about what castle life was really like hundreds of years ago. Talks will change daily, ranging from medieval medicine, arms and armour, to the art of medieval writing! Visit our Artisan Courtyard to discover more about our 'Talk of the Day'.
