Alnwick Castle is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the North East of England, and whether people visit to learn more about our history, explore our film connections or simply have fun, we want them to have the best day possible.
 
To make this happen, we recruit individuals who share our enthusiasm for the iconic castle and can in turn share it with our visitors. Alnwick Castle's seasonal staff are one big team; every member of staff is valued and plays an important part in ensuring visitors have the great experience they expect, and feel safe while doing so.
 
The friendly welcome, the fascinating history, the amazing food, the interactive learning, the performances and the clean facilities. They are all parts of a great visitor experience, and we are looking for people who can help us achieve it.

All successful candidates will be invited to the Alnwick Castle Induction Day on Saturday 1st March 2025, with training taking place across various dates throughout March.  

Alnwick Castle will re-open to visitors on Friday 28th March 2025.

Visitor Services

Whether greeting visitors as they arrive on site, selling tickets, answering queries or keeping the castle looking its best, these roles are the front line for ensuring our visitors have all they need to enjoy a wonderful day at Alnwick Castle.

Administrative Assistant

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for seasonal Administrative Assistants. You must be flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented. Duties include answering all general visitor enquiries via email and telephone, using EPOS till systems, providing a warm, friendly response to all visitors, delivering correct information on all aspects of the Castle's opening, and communicating regularly with Alnwick Castle management about visitor feedback.
 
This role is primarily office-based, and may include additional duties on behalf of the Admissions, Sales and Marketing departments. Anyone with excellent customer service and/or IT skills would be suited to this role.

Visitor Services Assistant and Till Operator

If you are flexible, reliable, punctual and well-presented, a role in the Visitor Services and Admissions team may be for you.
 
Duties include serving customers using EPOS till systems, providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors, delivering correct information on the Castle's various opening times, prices, activities and facilities, and ticket checking at Castle entry points. This role is primarily outdoors.
 
Anyone with excellent customer service and/or till operating skills would be well-suited for this role.

Cleaning Operative

Alnwick Castle is a truly special historic place enjoyed by people all over the world, and making sure it stays clean is a vital part of our visitor experience.
 
Our pathways, facilities and picnic areas are parts of the Castle all visitors interact with, and your work keeps them looking their best. It’s not just cleaning – it’s having great attention to detail, working quickly to solve problems when they arise, and most importantly, caring about and taking pride in what you do.

Historical Interpretation and Guiding

By sharing a wealth of knowledge on history, art and much more, or by delivering entertaining performances and engaging activities, these roles bring the history and wonder of Alnwick Castle to life for all our visitors.  

Historical Interpreter and Performer

Do you have the energy and excitement needed to bring history to life? Alnwick Castle is recruiting for Historical Interpreters and Performers to be part of a fast-paced, hard-working team with a focus on making sure our visitors have a brilliant and memorable experience.
 
You will engage visitors with demonstrations of medieval crafts, help to run the daily activities in Artisans Courtyard and Dragon Quest, and even teach them how to fly a broomstick!

Based in the magnificent State Rooms, or delivering full guided tours in the Castle grounds, you will contribute to every visitor's enjoyment of Alnwick Castle and bring its history and collections to life.

Film Tour Guide

Alnwick Castle has appeared on screen many times, including Harry Potter movies and episodes of Downton Abbey, and filming location tours are one of our most popular activities. If you enjoy watching, learning and talking about film and TV, and sharing your enthusiasm with people of all ages and backgrounds, a role as a Film Tour Guide is well suited for you.
 
Working alongside the wider Guides team, you will conduct multiple tours each day, so a strong and confident voice is required.
 
Enthusiasm for working with members of the public, the ability to retain knowledge, and the skills to communicate information in a clear, friendly and accessible way are essential.

Great Kitchen Steward and Guide

Working closely with the State Room Guide team, you will provide a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors to the Great Kitchen and larders, ensuring safe entry and exit to the State Rooms and historic Kitchens, whilst bringing the Kitchen to life, engaging with visitors through conversation, talks and tours.
 
This team will work at the entry and exit points, directing and managing any queues that form, and making visitors aware of any restrictions which may affect their visit.

Language Speaking Guide

Alnwick Castle welcomes visitors from all over the world, from China to South America as well as throughout Europe. Food and Beverage Assistant

Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with fantastic customer service skills to be part of our Food and Beverage team, offering an enjoyable catering experience across a range of outlets.

Junior Chef

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for a Junior Chef. Working under the guidance of our Head Chef, you will assist with the delivery of quality food products to the guests and visitors of Alnwick Castle. Kitchen Assistant

Alnwick Castle is now recruiting for Kitchen Assistants. Your role will be to prepare and assemble food under the supervision of the Head Chef. Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided. If you have a passion for cooking and are interested in pursuing a profession in catering or hospitality this is the ideal job for you. 
 
A positive attitude to work is essential and you must be eager to learn and develop your current skill set.

Kitchen Porter

Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with great customer service skills to be part of the team working across a range of food outlets. Kitchen Porters will have additional duties supporting the Chefs in our busy kitchen areas.
 
You will be required to assist the Chefs in keeping all food preparation areas exceptionally clean and organised, and be responsible for the cleaning and storage of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. You will also assist in delivering food to the various outlets around the Castle site. A positive attitude towards work is essential, as is the ability to motivate others. This will be for daytime weekend work only.

Retail

No visit to Alnwick Castle would be complete without a browse of one of the two gift shops, and this role helps visitors find everything they are looking for from pocket money treats to gifts for friends and family.

Retail Assistant

Alnwick Castle is recruiting for Retail Assistants to work at the Castle's two on-site gift shops, selling a wide variety of popular and high-end items to visitors from all over the world.
 
Duties include serving customers, stock control and merchandising, and assistance with deliveries (some heavy lifting may be required).
 
Desirable qualities include previous experience in a customer-facing role, cash-handling skills, working as part of a team, and experience of an EPOS system or an equivalent.

Operational roles

Operations Assistant

Alnwick Castle is recruiting for a seasonal Operations Assistant to work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that the castle is ready to welcome staff and visitors every day.  If you have excellent communication skills, are organised and have great attention to detail, then this role may be for you.   
 
Duties will include ensuring that the site remains safe and smart throughout the season, assisting in the upkeep and development of procedures and systems, and assisting in large scale events and projects.

Events and Education

Becoming part of the Events or Education teams at Alnwick Castle offers variety beyond your regular daily duties. You could be leading an attack on the Castle Barbican; assisting with outdoor events; and helping to make lasting memories for school groups, special guests and more.

Education team

Alnwick Castle is looking for candidates with fantastic engagement skills to be part of our Education Team, delivering a range of high quality activities for visiting school groups throughout the open season.  
 
From exploring medieval life to recreating an attack on the castle, this role offers experience across a diverse range of positions and can be taken in addition to any other seasonal position at the castle.  Please note, this is not a stand alone position due to the ad hoc nature of Education visits to the castle.
